Some say yes, some say no. I say definitely no!
I believe that God is Love. The Bible says so, the Koran says so. More important than that--my own experience tells me so. But more of that another time.
Often we think of God as a judge, who punishes sinners for their sins. But there is another way to look at this. I believe God put us on this Earth for a reason. Somewhere I read: The chief end of man (and woman) is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever." Like any good earthly father he wants his chidren to be happy and so gave us rules of conduct to keep us out of trouble. Most of these are the so-called ten commandments. If we keep these we will prosper. If everyone does so the nation will do well also. If we break these rulles we suffer the consequences.
Here is a good example. On my 21st parachute jump I turned my chute right when I was too close to the ground. This caused a temporary oscillation and in this case it brought my right foot closer to the ground as air escaped to the left from my tilted canopy. So I descended more quickly, and because I was too close to the ground I came down fast and hard on my right foot while my body continued twisting. The result was a fracture-dislocation of my right ankle. This was the natural consequence of my own mistake. I broke a vital law of God, the law of gravity. God did not punish me. I suffered the consequences quite naturally.
Countless times in the Bible we read that when the nation of Israel followed what God asked them to do he protected them and they lived happily in a secure environment. But he warned them that if they worshipped other gods and did things like sacrificing their babies to false gods, he would withdraw his protection. This happened many times. The prophets warned them but they didn't listen. Eventually Sennacherib, King of Assyria, conquered the less faithful Northern Kingdom, took away all people belonging to ten of the twelve Hebrew tribes, and scattered them in other lands. These became the "Lost Tribes of Israel." Eventually many of their descendants ended up in Europe where one day they met a very nasty man named Adolf Hitler. The rest is history well familiar to you. The holocaust occured because of the evil committed by Hitler. It happend to these people as a consequence of their ancestors not following the rules of conductt designed to keep them healthy and out of trouble.
The point of all this is that God never wanted the nation of Israel, his own chosen people, conquered, scattered and eventually subjected to the holocaust. Because they disobeyed God's Rules of Conduct, they and their descendants experienced the natural consequences.
Now think about this one. The holocaust survivors got on a ship and no country would allow them entry. So they went to Palestine and docked there. This led to the establishment of the Jewish State, something that might never have happened but for the holocaust. God did not want the holocaust or have anything to do with it. It was caused by an evil person, but God used it to bless his chosen people. The end has not come. More things are in store. Read your newspapers for further developments!
I'm writing a book on all this with the tentative title Life Beyond Life in a Parallel Universe. It tells about a
parallel universe in which the laws of quantum mechanics apply to spiritual bodies, and tells things like how to have sex in Heaven
without any of the usual physical equipment. It explains the Trinity and the inevitability of sin because there cannot be light
unless there is darkness--and many other exciting things. Look for it in 2012!
