Lanstephen Castle of 1820

From the Quebec Mercury of Tuesday, August 22, 1820.

We who were Passengers on board the Lanstephen Castle, Capt. Jeremiah Thomas, Master, from Ross, in Ireland to Quebec, before taking leave of our said Captain, feel in justice due to him to state that during the passage which, owing to contrary winds continued for sixty-one days, he acted with vigilance in his duty as a seaman, and behaved with the utmost kindness and attention in his power to us as Passengers, and we also state that his whole Ship's crew conducted themselves with becoming propriety. Given under our hands in Quebec, this 13th day of August, 1820.

Although I have added my signature with the principal of the Passengers to the within testimonial, I cannot well avoid adding from my small knowledge of the sea faring life, that I consider our Captain, Jeremiah Thomas to be am'able and steady seaman, and his conduct during our long passage, fully deserving the highest praise and thanks of us all of the County of Wexford, Ireland.
