Ships 1876 - 1893 | Ships 1894 - 1904 | Ships 1905 - 1930s | Allan Line | and also of interest Ships to Quebec 1793
The data in the following tables was extracted from the Government of Canada Sessional Papers. In the early years, the report for the port of Quebec was the only one given. Later, reports sometimes appeared for Halifax, Saint John and a few other places such as Hamilton (this must have been lake traffic).
The numbers given in the various categories changed meaning over the years. For example, at one time a male was any male over 12 years; a female any female over 12 years; a child was over one year of age and an infant under one. Sometimes all children 12 and under were listed as "child" and the infant category was not used.
The numbers of passengers given here did not always agree with the numbers that were quoted in other government reports. Therefore, these figures should only be used as a guideline. Dates were also not consistent, sometimes being given and sometimes not. Later forms changed so that ships names were not given but the destination of the party was.
The information is for all "assisted" passage. This means for the organizations bringing children as well as reformatories, industrial schools and emigration groups, such as the East End Emigration Society and the Clerkenwell Emigration Committee. These later two groups, and others like them, brought hundreds of familes and adults to Canada.
