Dakeyne Boys Farm and Captain Oliver Hind

Captain Oliver Hind, Mr. John Player and other notable men of Nottingham, England, joined together to form the Dakeyne Boys Brigade. The objective of the Brigade was to train lads and give them shelter.

In 1913, Captain Hind purchased a 400 acre farm about four miles from Windsor, Nova Scotia. Lads were sent to this farm between 1913 and 1923. In all about 50-60 boys were sent to Nova Scotia from Nottingham, England.

The farm was taken over by the Government and used for boys coming to Canada under the Empire Settlement Act.
